Peter Bichler presented new insights into the commercial trade between the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empires, including the "kilim-mania" that was triggered by the 1873 Vienna World Fair.

Peter Bichler is President of the Austrian Society for Textile Art Research. He has executed various exhibitions, catalogues & lectures for The British Council, the Museum of Natural History in Vienna and ICOC. His lecture topic, Fez & Kilim will offer new insights into the commercial trade between the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empires, including the "kilim-mania" that was triggered by the 1873 Vienna World Fair, which was the driving force leading to the multitude of mid-nineteenth century Anatolian kilims in European collections.
